Sports Betting Resources’ top MLB bets, picks, and tips for Friday, July 27 feature the Phillies at Reds, Indians at Tigers, and Mariners and Angels in a crucial AL West showdown.
Phillies (-110) at Reds
Opening Line: -107, Cincinnati
Opening Total: 9.5 (-115)
First Pitch: 7:05 p.m. ET
In eight away contests facing left-handed starters this season, the Phillies average 3.1 runs per game. Most of that came via a 10-run explosion against Tampa in mid April, their first matchup of the year in this situation. Since, Philly has put up more than 3 runs just once (June 6). The lineup mustered only 3.9 per tilt all last season in this spot. The young roster is not configured for these conditions.
The Reds’ current lineup, meanwhile, owns a .579 OPS and just one extra-base hit in 20 total plate appearances versus Phils starter Nick Pavetta. Look for the right-hander to have a bounce-back outing after going 1-3 with a 6.68 ERA in his last seven starts. One, if not both teams, struggle at the plate.
Best Bet: UNDER 9.5 (-115)
Indians (-185) at Tigers
Opening Line: -175, Cleveland
Opening Total: 9 (-130)
First Pitch: 7:10 p.m. ET
The Indians are just 10-9 against AL Central rivals on the road, despite being heavily favored in every contest. Bettors backing their opponents are up 12.7 percent at 161.6 average odds. When laying less than -200 on the oddsboard, Cleveland’s record dips to 3-8 overall. The average score line is 5.0 to 3.8 for the home team.
The division is weak outside of the Indians, but oddsmakers have these matchups a tad inflated. Detroit is a value play at plus-money throughout the series.
Bets Bet: Tigers +175
Mariners at Angels (-135)
Opening Line: -144, Los Angeles
Opening Total: 8.5 (-115)
First Pitch: 10:07 p.m. ET
The UNDER has hit in six of the Mariners’ last seven outings, mustering just 3.0 runs on a lowly 6.4 hits per game. They are due to turnaround, and in a prime spot with Wade LeBlanc taking the pill.
Seattle is 18-5 SU all-time behind the former Angels’ southpaw, returning 50.8 percent profit at -105.0 average odds. The staff yields 3.9 runs per game, but is supported by a healthy 4.8 scoring average. Win or lose, the Mariners make this competitive. Runs will be aplenty.
Best Bet: OVER 8.5
