After nearly two months on the board, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators, and Pittsburgh Penguins are tied as co-favorites at +800 odds to win the 2019 Stanley Cup at South Point sportsbook in Las Vegas.
The two franchises seeing the biggest adjustments at the famed bookmaker are the Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs. The pair round out the top five betting choices at +1000 odds. The Jets, reigning Western Conference NHL Finals representatives, are down from a +1200 opening line first offered on June 8. The Maple Leafs, which picked up longtime Islanders center John Tavares in free agency, have plunged from an initial +1500 figure.
The Vegas Golden Knights (+1200), Boston Bruins (+1200), Washington Capitals (+1200) and Columbus Blue Jackets (+1800) round out the top nine selections.
Futures bettors should avoid wagering any team not mentioned above. Over the last decade, no franchise outside the top nine preseason selections has gone on to hoist the Cup. Nor has any opened the season at odds greater than +1600. The Blue Jackets likely need some more action to be considered a credible contender.
